As a result of the 2017 OpenStack Board Director election that held last week, inwinSTACK, the leading provider in OpenStack/Ceph services in Taiwan, has been elected as one of the eight OpenStack Gold Member Board Directors for 2017. This is the first time that a Taiwanese provider has obtained the honor of becoming a board member of the largest open source foundation in the world.
The OpenStack Foundation has been growing at a rapid pace in recent years, with contributions by global tech giants including Intel, Cisco, DELL, HP, IBM, Red Hat, SUSE, Oracle, AMD, VMware, Ubuntu, EMC, SAP, Seagate, WD, NetApp, Huawei, NEC, and Fujitsu etc. Over 6 million R&D engineers around the world have been involved in the development of the OpenStack project. It is widely deployed by global enterprises, IT organizations, and banking institutes such as Walmart, eBay, AT&T, NTT, Deutsche Telekom AG, China Telecom, China Mobile, Wells Fargo, Bank of America, China Unionpay, Postal Savings Bank of China, Industrial Bank, and Shenzhen Stock Exchange.
Joseph Wang, the Vice President and representative of inwinSTACK for this year’s Board Director election, is honored and proud for inwinSTACK to rise above hot competitors such as DELL/EMC, NEC, Hitachi, China Telecom, and Deutsche Telekom AG to achieve this remarkable success. For the past years, inwinSTACK has been a major participant in the OpenStack project by contributing codes and bug fixes, organizing events, and working with partners to build the open ecosystem. The election result indicates that these efforts and contributions are highly recognized by the OpenStack Foundation. Open Source is now the most popular way to develop new technology or applications. In software, there are OpenStack, Docker, Kubernetes, Hadoop, and many other projects in the fields of AI, IoT, and Big Data. In hardware, open source is constantly growing as well, including POM (open source electric vehicle platform) which was announced at the 2017 CES, the next generation high speed rail system – Hyperloop, and the Dronecode project for Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). Major countries and organizations are advancing and engaging in Open Source technologies to create more business opportunities for the future. inwinSTACK is one of the few Taiwanese firms that set its focus on open source development, and with its achievement on becoming the Board Director for OpenStack Foundation, inwinSTACK will continue to make efforts to promote open source projects and lead more enterprises, IT talents, and educational institutes to participate in open source ecosystems.
